SEEDS and BULBS
Strawflower
StrawflowerThe genus helichrysum includes more than 500 species distributed almost all over the world. Many are grown as ornamentals. In Greece there are about ten species. It is found mainly in the regions of the Prefecture of Preveza, Thesprotia Prefecture and the Ionian Islands.
Its flowers are small yellow and its stem is thin. When dried, the plant keeps its shape and the tops of the flowers their yellow color, which is why they are also called “immortal” or “amaranth”.
Alyssum
AlyssumThe Alyssum is an annual flowering plant, of low growth, with small lanceolate leaves of light green color and many small flowers of white, pink or purple color. The Alyssum has abundant and prolonged flowering that lasts from early spring to late autumn. It is an ideal plant for shallow pots and planters, but also for the garden in cluster planting, in rock gardens, for ground cover or for a low flowering border. The Alyssum gr ws best in sunny or semi-shady positions and is resistant to both high and low temperatures. The ideal temperature for the development of the Alyssum is from 16 to 24°C. The Alyssum has no particular requirements regarding the soil, it grows easily even in coastal areas, as long as we choose sunny parts of the garden. The Alyssum is propagated by seeds that can be sown directly in the planting site in March to ensure abundant summer flowering.
Aquilegia
AquilegiaAquilegia (Aquilegia vulgaris, Ranunculaceae) is a very beautiful ornamental plant native to southern Europe. We find it in many regions of Greece, from Crete to Macedonia, beautifying the Greek nature with its wonderful flowers. Aquilegia is a genus of over 20 perennial plants and belongs to the Ranunculaceae family.
In our country it is cultivated as a perennial plant and the most widespread species is Aquilegia vulgaris. We meet her under the names Colombina and Bride of the Hills. It is a plant that is also used for scavenging.
Aquilegia belongs to the Ranunculaceae family and includes over twenty perennial plants. There are dwarf varieties up to 20cm and bushy varieties up to 1.20cm. In Greece, Aquilegia is cultivated as a perennial plant, mainly the vulgaris variety. The flowers are impressive. Columbine produces double flowers in a variety of shades of red, violet white and striking blue that rise up to 30cm higher than the foliage. The flowering period is from June to October.
Agrostemma
AgrostemmaAnnual erect plant, with a height of up to one meter, quite hairy. Leaves opposite, growing by nodes, long linear, lanceolate. Beautiful pink five-petalled flowers, with internal black lines. Calyx oval striped, and at its top there are five pointed outgrowths that support the flower. We find it blooming towards the end of spring in grain crops and in semi-mountain meadows.
Cockle is a picky plant. Sow in early May directly into the ground (he doesn’t like transplanting). If the shoots are dense, thin the distance
I leave about 10-15 cm.
Care for the agrostoma is simple: weeding, watering, if there is no rain for a long time.
It doesn’t even need a support – the kidonaki stands firmly on its own “legs”.
If you have set aside a place for planting the puppet next year, do not wait for spring, sow the seeds for the winter.
In this case, the plants will bloom and decorate your garden much earlier.
Faded plants tie the seeds perfectly.
Agerato
AgeratoAgerato is a distinctive low-growing ornamental plant with heart-shaped leaves and beautiful small flowers in showy tuft-like inflorescences in shades of blue, violet and white. The flowering of the elderflower is so profuse, that it almost hides the foliage of the plant, and lasts from spring to late autumn. Agerato is native to Mexico and is an ideal choice for planting in shallow pots and planters, and is also used in the garden in cluster planting, rock gardens and even as a ground cover. Agirato has no particular soil requirements as long as it has good drainage. When found in fertile soil it shows better growth and richer flowering.
