Autumn has come and our plants need our care
September is over and the most favorite season of the little gardeners has arrived! Autumn is a “bridge” point between the hot summer season we went through and the low temperatures we are going to encounter. Thus begins the most important season of caring for our gardens. But we do not forget that this season is also called small spring, since nature offers us many seasonal flowers to decorate our balconies on cold days. The dog, the pansy, the calendula, the chrysanthemum, the gazania, and the geranium continue to beautify our balconies and the garden.
In the summer, due to the regular watering, the soil in the pots of the plants has suffered and we need to renew it in order to enrich it with organic matter.
A simple and quick solution is to add new enriched topsoil to the pot, which with watering will add nutrients to the plants. Autumn is the best time to plant vegetables and herbs. Ideally, dig the top of the soil lightly and plant seeds such as parsley, dill onion, cauliflower, broccoli or spinach. It is also a pruning season and the best time to fertilize the plants before hibernation. We prune the young leaves in the autumn months because due to their water content they become vulnerable to winter frosts. Remove all the dead tops from the flowers and pay special attention to the roses by adding organic fertilizer and watering near their roots. At this time we pay close attention to snails and other enemies of our plants.
